Ascent/Descent

Ascent/Descent is a painting of a good friend of mine, pregnant with her third child.  By using this image I wanted to convey both hope about what is to come and simultaneously a sense of things being out of control.  This is the first in a series of images touching on this theme.

About the Artist

bio

Jennifer Fairbanks was raised in Western Kentucky and studied painting and ceramics at Murray State University while pursuing training in classical painting techniques with portrait artist Joy Thomas. Through a grant from the Kentucky Arts Council, she relocated to New York City to study figurative and portrait painting with Ron Sherr and Mary Beth McKenzie at the Art Students League and the National Academy of Design. She earned a Master’s degree from New York University in Art Therapy and has exhibited her artwork in numerous group and solo shows in New York, Kentucky and Spain.
